pH Up - pH Riser 2 Kg
Raises the pH of swimming pool water
Add to pool when pH is low. Proper pH balance is an essential part of pool maintenance. The recommended range is 7.2 to 7.8. If the pH of your pool is low (below 7.2), the water will be acidic. Discomfort from skin and eye irritation could develop. This condition also causes the chlorine to become unstable, and therefore less effective in killing bacteria, algae, and in the disintegration of organic matter.
Protect Your Heater Warranty & Skin Comfort
Water balance isn't just about clear water—it's about protecting your investment. If your pH drops below 7.2, your water becomes acidic. Acidic water is aggressive; it wants to eat metal.
pH Up is your primary defense against equipment failure.
In a hot tub, acidic water will rapidly corrode the copper heating element and the metal shaft inside your pump This is the cause of premature heater failure (which is often not covered by warranty if the damage is chemical). This concentrated granular formula (Soda Ash) instantly neutralizes acid, saving your equipment and your wallet.
Perfect for New Cedar Tubs
Owners of Northern Lights Cedar Tubs need to be especially vigilant.
- The "Break-In" Period: As new wood gets wet, it releases natural tannins These tannins are acidic and will constantly drag your pH down for the first few months.
- The Solution: Keep this 2 Kg pail handy. You will likely need to add small doses weekly to counteract the wood's natural acidity until the tub is fully seasoned.
The Comfort Factor
Have you ever felt "itchy" after a soak? Or had your eyes sting?
That usually isn't the chlorine; it's low pH. Human tears have a pH of 7.5. If your spa water is 6.8 (acidic), your body reacts immediately. Raising the pH to the 7.2 – 7.6 range matches your body's natural balance, making the water feel silky and soothing.
Master Class: pH vs. Total Alkalinity
The "Rubber Band" Effect
To master your water chemistry, you need to understand the relationship between pH and Total Alkalinity (TA).
- Alkalinity acts like a "buffer" or an anchor for your pH
- If TA is Low: Your pH will be wild and unstable. It will bounce up and down rapidly (pH Bounce).
- If TA is High: Your pH will be stubborn and hard to change.
The Strategy:
Always check your Alkalinity first.
- Step 1: Use Alkalinity Booster to get your TA to 80-120 ppm.
- Step 2: Once TA is set, check your pH. If it is still low, then use pH Up.
- Note: Adding pH Up raises BOTH pH and Alkalinity, so add it in small doses to avoid overshooting your targets.
Troubleshooting: "Why is my pH always low?"
If you are constantly adding pH Up and it never seems to stay up, check these three culprits:
- Heavy Bather Load: Sweat and body oils are acidic
- Bromine Tabs: Bromine tablets are naturally acidic (pH ~4.0). Using them requires more frequent pH adjustments than liquid chlorine.
- Rain Water: If your outdoor tub cover was left open during a storm, rain (which is naturally acidic) can crash your pH.
