NLCT- PH- REDUCER
Quickly and effectively reduce your spa water's pH level with pH reducer!
"Approved for all types of hot tubs and spas including wood"
If your spa or hot tub's water has a strong chlorine odor, is cloudy, or is testing low for pH, then NLCT's pH reducer might be your solution.
Northern Light's pH Reducer is used to safely lower the pH in spa and hot tub water. Compatible with all sanitizers including bromine, chlorine and biguanide.
Proper pH balance is an essential part of spa/hot tub maintenance. The recommended range is 7.2 to 7.6. If the pH level becomes too high, the water will be acidic. Discomfort to the skin and eye irritation can develop. High pH levels also cause sanitizers such as bromine and chlorine to combine with other materials in the water and become less effective. Test water levels regularly to ensure proper pH level.
- Effectively lowers the pH level in spa and hot tub water
- Prevents corrosion and equipment damage from high pH
- Reliable, safe and effective
Size: 750 g (26.5 Oz)

Balancing your water chemistry is the secret to a comfortable soak, but sometimes your pH levels can drift too high. If your test strip reads above 7.8, your water is too "Alkaline."
The symptoms of High pH are obvious:
- The water looks cloudy or milky.
- Scale (white crust) is forming on your heater or jets
- Your chlorine/bromine is working poorly (or not at all).
- Your skin feels dry or itchy after soaking.
NLCT pH Reducer (also known as pH Minus) is the quick fix. This fast-acting granular formula lowers both pH and Total Alkalinity, bringing your water back into the "Comfort Zone" (7.2 – 7.6) where your sanitizer works best and your water feels silky smooth.
The "Wood Tub" Advantage
Most acids are harsh and dangerous for natural materials.
- Universal Approval: This formula is buffered and approved for all spa types, including Northern Lights Cedar Tubs, Acrylic, Fiberglass, and Vinyl.
- Safety: It effectively neutralizes alkalinity without damaging the lignin in wood fibers or corroding metal heater elements when used as directed.
Key Benefits
- Boosts Sanitizer: Chlorine is 50% less effective at high pH. Lowering the pH makes your sanitizer strong again immediately.
- Prevents Scale: Stops calcium from falling out of solution and crusting over your heater.
- Clears Water: Often clears up cloudy water caused by high alkalinity within hours.
- Dual Action: Lowers both pH and Total Alkalinity simultaneously.
Master Class: Understanding pH & Alkalinity
Why does my pH keep going up?
It is a common frustration: you balance the water, but a few days later, the pH is high again. This is usually caused by "pH Drift" due to aeration. Every time you turn on your air jets or bubblers, you introduce oxygen into the water. This process (outgassing carbon dioxide) naturally raises the pH level.
-
Pro Tip: If you have a high-use tub with lots of jet action, you will likely need to add a small dose of pH Reducer weekly.
The "See-Saw" Effect
It is important to know that pH and Total Alkalinity (TA) are best friends—they hold hands.
- When you add pH Reducer, BOTH numbers will go down.
- The Strategy: Always check your Alkalinity first. If your Alkalinity is very high (above 150 ppm), your pH will be stubborn and refuse to come down. You may need a larger dose of pH Reducer to "break" the Alkalinity first. Once Alkalinity is in range (80-120 ppm), the pH usually falls into place naturally.
How to Dose Correctly
Never guess! Adding too much acid can crash your pH and cause damage.
- Test: Dip a Test Strip to confirm levels are high.
- Measure: Start small. Dissolve 1 capful (approx. 1 oz) of granules in a bucket of spa water.
- Pour: Pour the bucket slowly around the edge of the tub with the pump running.
- Wait: Let the water circulate for 20-30 minutes.
- Retest: If levels are still high, repeat. It is better to dose twice than to overdose once!
